It's all about White!

What is it about white?  It really does seem to be always right!  We have noticed that anything white sells twice as fast as other colors.  We had some gorgeous yellow farm chairs for sale recently.  I had a least 10 emails about them.  Was the paint in good condition? What type of paint? Was the paint lemony or pineapple-y? Or is it egg yolky... Was there paint under the paint?  Blimey....ENOUGH.!!!  The emails went back and forth.  They were lovely, sturdy 1950's chairs much cheaper than Ikea chairs.  They finally sold.  JUST before I was going to paint them white.

Our Pine Cone Hill Order came in.....all white and ruffled....
We picked up an old white cabinet......
And Filled it with white bits.......
A white Farmhouse Washstand.....
A fun little white stool......

So.....why am I whinging on about WHITE......because I am about to head to the cottage to organize the kitchen re-do.......and as a huge departure for me and my beloved white.......I am painting the cupboards a color.  Yes, I am going to embrace the fact that I am a designer and once in a while I should use color.  So I am using Martha Stewart Enamelware........
......And THAT scares the crap out of me.

The Cottage is Beachy.....this is my inspiration..
Blue Lowers,  White Uppers.  Glass knobs.

  5. wow, now I really want to see the results!!!
I read other day Chania, in a PB book I have "how to get white right"! I don't think you can go wrong with white, but...
And, YES, we need color too!!!
    Have a awesome evening!

  6. You used the word CRAP....hahha your first response back to me was that you liked that I used that word on your comments... Where can you buy Martha Stewart paint. Be brave. It will look good , except Egg Yolk yellow.....that sounds terribly gross. I would like to see the enamel colour. Your shop looks good too...I am sending well wishes to you and your friend.

  8. You are spoiling me with your humor in talking about those yellow chairs. I think I remember them if you posted about them. I was thinking I would take them in a heartbeat if your store was close to me.

Good to be brave in decorating. You usually get more interesting results. Can't wait to see the outcome.

  9. I know what you mean about white, I'm slowly coming around to the light side. Painting anything scares me to death, right now I'm agonizing over whether or not to paint my coffee table....I can't imagine having to do cabinets. I know they will be gorgeous though, and I love the color you have picked, can't wait to see the end result. : ) Carrie

  11. That old white cabinet is beautiful Chania! And I too love white. Funny enough, though, I don't really use it as much as I'd like to in my decorating. When we finally get our basement renovation done, I plan on pulling together a mostly white office. But that's a looonnngg way off!

I'm definitely eager to see how your cottage kitchen re-do turns out... the colour you've chosen is so pretty... and cottagy!

Thank you so much for the vote of confidence in my ability to learn how to garden! Thank you also for the name of the variegated leafy plant's name... I've added it to the blog post along with a link back here to Razmataz!

    All the best,
    Victoria

  12. I think it's cause white is timeless and crisp and always seems clean. I think sometimes people are scared of color because it can seem dated. I try to use colors I love, not follow "trends". If you do that, it has more staying power, course as a designer, you know that. I cannot WAIT to see the cabinets, I think they will be gorgeous.
